Pune News Live Updates, January 28 2023:Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Saturday praised External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for his “strong resolve”. Fadnavis released ‘Bharat Marg’, the Marathi translation of Jaishankar’s book ‘The India Way’ in the presence of the Union minister at an event. The Deputy CM added that India now stands strong in the world and the countries that do not want to live under the pressure of Russia or the USA have reposed a strong faith in the leadership of PM Narendra Modi.
Retesh Kumaarr, Commissioner of Police (Pune City), held a meeting of about 120 representatives of various business groups, chambers of commerce and agriculture, corporate companies and IT firms and have urged them to lodge complaints against troublemakers operating in the guise of Mathadi workers- manual labourers who load and unload trucks – and under the cover of Mathadi labour unions. This comes after the anti-extortion cell of the Pune City police crime branch caught two men – who claimed to be Mathadi workers – red-handed while they were collecting extortion money of Rs 26,000 after they had threatened to kill a person who had won the contract for loading and unloading goods at a mall in Viman Nagar area. Police said the accused did not have any work order, nor were they registered under the Mathadi labour union.

India seeing huge transformation, will be leading power after becoming 'atmanirbhar', says Jaishankar
India has seen a huge transformation in the last eight to nine years and the country will be a leading power after it becomes 'atmanirbhar' (self reliant), External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said here on Saturday.
In Pune to launch 'Bharat Marg', the Marathi translation of his book 'The India Way', the EAM said the aim was to get people to associate with the nation's foreign policy and not just listen to the "mandarins" (a term generally used for powerful bureaucrats). He also spoke on China and the challenges the country faces with the ambitious northern neighbour as well as India's ties with Japan and the role in the Indo-Pacific.
"There are eight chapters. I wanted people to be associated with (the country's) foreign policy. I want to involve people from other states as well, not just Delhi. I have written this book in simple language and it is an easy read," he said.(PTI)

Screened BBC documentary on institute's campus: FTII students' association
The students' association of the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune screened the controversial BBC documentary on the 2002 Godhra riots on the campus of the premier acting school here, said the student body on Saturday.
“On 26/01/23, we screened the banned BBC documentary ‘The Modi Question' at FTII,” said a statement issued by the FTII Students' Association.Throughout history, the association's statement said, the banning of literature, music, and in recent times, media, has been a sign of a crumbling society.
“The act of scrutiny should be welcomed by our elected representatives. Instead, they quickly tag it as false propaganda and try to shove it under the rug. They should know that the sure-fire way for something to be watched is to ban it. However, the BBC documentary barely scratches the surface of the kind of violence that has been perpetuated throughout the country for a dedicated, singular, vicious purpose. It would be startling to us if anyone in India was surprised by the happenings in this documentary,” said the students' association.(PTI)
