If your Android device won't update, it might have to do with your Wi-Fi connection, battery, storage space, or the age of your device. Android mobile devices usually update automatically, but updates can be delayed or prevented for various reasons.
Swipe down from the top of your device's screen and tap on the Settings Cog. Scroll down and tap on 'About Device. ' View the current version of the Android software.
- Open the Google Play Store app .
- At the top right, tap the profile icon.
- Tap Manage apps & device. Apps with an update available are labeled "Update available."
- Tap Update.
Due to a process called fragmentation, Android phones often don't receive updates and patches in a timely manner. That's because Android is a licensed operating system that's often customized by third parties.
It should appear at the top of your screen in the notification bar. In that case, simply pull down the bar and tap the alert to update your device. If you don't see About device (or some variation) tap System. On some Android devices, you'll see a System updates option in the main Settings menu below About device.
It doesn't matter whether you're using an Android or iOS device. Security updates are a must-have. It's one of the ways to ensure that your smartphone is secure. The security industry constantly evolves as hackers try to discover vulnerabilities ahead of cybersecurity experts.
The Android Security Bulletin contains details of security vulnerabilities affecting Android devices. Security patch levels of 2022-08-05 or later address all of these issues. To learn how to check a device's security patch level, see Check and update your Android version.

Your Phone Will Eventually Slow Wayyy Down
As long as you have a new(ish) phone, updating your operating system is the best way to ensure it's working efficiently and at top speed.
As a general rule, you should never need to perform security updates or Google Play system updates manually — your phone should install these updates for you automatically. But if you want to get an update installed faster, you can run the update yourself. 1. Start the Settings app.
Head to the Google Play Store and select your profile icon in the top-right corner of the screen. Select Manage apps & device, and then choose the Updates available option. From here, you'll see a list of apps that need updating.
Check Device Storage
This one of the most popular reasons behind apps not updating error on Android. If your Android phone is running out of storage, it won't update apps on your phone. You can manually delete files and media from your phone to free up storage.
Most updates increase the amount of memory used by the app. Leave them alone if you don't want them. In terms of security updates, if the app isn't running then it isn't a risk.
To update the app manually, head to the Google Play store on your mobile device and search for Android Auto. You'll see when the latest version of the app was released under the What's new section. If the app somehow missed that update, you'll see an option to Update the app where the Open option is.
The stable version of Android 12L was released for devices with large screens on March 7, 2022, and was released as "Android 12.1" for Pixel smartphones on the same date, besides the Pixel 6 & Pixel 6 Pro.
With this update, Android 13 is rolling out to recent Pixel phones, with models older than the Pixel 4 and 4a cut off—and even those are not guaranteed to receive any updates after the October 2022 security patch.
Every month, Google releases some Pixel-specific patches that will affect phones currently being supported. For September 2022, the security issues were addressed as well as fixes for excessive battery drain, improvements for fingerprint recognition, and Bluetooth connection issues.
If your iPhone won't update 15, force restarting it may solve the problem. You should understand that different models of iPhone use varying methods to force restart. So, you should check your iPhone model to find the right method to force restart it. You have to press the “Volume Up” button and release it quickly.
You might be unable to update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly — or over the air — for one of these reasons: Your device doesn't support the latest software. There isn't enough available storage space on your device. The update takes a long time to download.
- Restart your iPhone. It's a simple fix that covers pretty much all forms of technology, but often, a quick restart will fix your iPhone even when running a new iOS update. ...
- Update your iPhone apps. ...
- Remove and re-add Bluetooth devices. ...
- Reduce your battery usage. ...
- Downgrade to iOS 14.
